Logic Devices and Design

Digital electronics is a major field in electronics that deals with logic design. Sequential logic devices and state machines are used to come up with digital designs that can be used in many diverse ways. There are two kinds of designs in digital electronics; sequential logic design and combinational logic design. Sequential logic differs from combinational logic in that both present and past inputs determine the output of the logic device. This means for the device output to depend on the present inputs and its present internal state, it must have some kind of a memory of its previous inputs. This can be any device that remembers that a signal of logic level 1 or 0 is connected to its inputs and is made available to the output. These memory devices are called OR gates.

In order to describe the behavior of a sequential device, a state table is used. In logic design, this used to show all the possible state and inputs and the state the device enters after an input. Memory units employ what is called 慺eedback?and this is characteristic of all memory devices that can be programmed. In fact, without feedback, there would not be any 憄ermanent?memory device in electronics. In their most basic forms, memory circuits are called flip flops or latches. The JK is the most versatile flip-flop and is the mot commonly used. It has no undefined states and it has two data inputs, J and K, and a clock input. This type of flip-flop logic design is edge triggered on the falling clock edge. This kind of flip flop is the most commonly used because it has a simpler logic design that ensures that the state changes properly in a circuit.

In sequential logic there are also other devices called registers that can do a bunch of things. Some common registers include data registers, shift registers, counters and synchronous counters. In a practical way, data registers are used to hold numeric values such as floating point and integer values. Other logic devices include state machines. These logic devices depend on variables and immediate inputs to output a state. In a counter, the sate variables are the values that have been stored in the flip flops. Again, the logic design of state machines is completely defined by the use of a state table. Programming logic design has undoubtedly seen much advancement and its uses have likewise expanded.

Learning Disability Testing

Parenting is touch and go at times for many families. Your child does not come with an owner’s manual and it can be hard to know when something is not right. You can find great books on parenting that are worth the time it takes to read through them and think about what is included, but the answers are not always clear. If your child is struggling in school, you may think that they are being lazy, distracted, or perhaps that your child simply isn’t all that smart. Before you make any of those assumptions, think about learning disability testing to make sure something else is not going on.

The first thing to do before you start learning disability testing is to make sure your child can see and hear. They were screened at birth (or shortly there after) and perhaps a few times while younger, but problems can come up out of nowhere. They could be struggling with classwork and school in general simply because they have hearing loss or vision problems. Get those two things out of the way first to make sure those are not problems for your child, and then you can think about learning disability testing to see if that could be the problem.

There are many different learning disabilities that could be a problem for your child or children. Dyslexia is a problem that is often missed in students that are struggling with reading and math. Those with this condition see things in reverse at times, making reading both words and numbers next to impossible. As you can imagine, this makes learning even the simplest things hard. Bright students have gotten lost in the system simply because they have not gone though learning disability testing that could have pinpointed this problem.

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and ADD (attention deficit disorder) are two very common problems that can stop a child from learning at their full potential. Children with these conditions are often very bright, but can not stay on task long enough to show anyone what they can do. These children can often be very disruptive in class, and teachers can brand them as trouble makers with low IQ when in fact they are very intelligent and have no control over some of their more impulsive behaviors. When these problems arise with your child, see about learning disability testing for ADHD and ADD to see if that may be the issue.

Remember that there can be an emotional price for children who are undergoing learning disability testing. They may feel as if they are stupid and worthless. Let your child know that trouble learning does not mean they are any different or any less intelligent than any other child. It just means they may need a new way to learn. If they feel down or you notice depression, talk with your school counselor to see if perhaps your child could use some extra help getting over the emotional issues that are bound to pop up.

Eating a lactose free diet

Over the past several years it’s become apparent to me that I have to change the way I eat. My best friend, at age twenty eight, died of a heart attack. My father, aged sixty five, also succumbed to a heart attack – his third. My cholesterol was shooting up, as was my weight. I was chronically fatigued, I was suffering joint pain, and was generally unable to sleep consistently.

So I decided enough is enough and changed the way I eat. The first thing to go was processed food – if it’s processed, chances are it’s not actually food – and that was a great beginning for me. When you go to the store and buy anything that’s canned or bagged, check the ingredients and see what’s involved. It’s brutal – it’s stuff that doesn’t even sound remotely like food. It sounds like stuff that could burn its way through a steel girder if you throw it on there.

But I also made a somewhat radical decision: I decided to go with a lactose free diet. This was tough for me, since I absolutely love cheese. And not just cheese on my pizza or cheese on my burger, but… just any kind of cheese at all. A cheese plate would be just as great a dessert for me as a piece of cake.

Going with a lactose free diet makes sense if you think about it, but I never really had. And it didn’t actually occur to me to go with a lactose free diet til I randomly read an interview with Jack Lalane, who was roughly ninety five years old at the time. Lalane attributed his long life and fitness to his strenuous exercise regimen, but also to his diet. And, he said, the most important part of his diet was that it was a lactose free diet. As he pointed out, in nature animals stop weaning just past infancy. In other words, animals go on a lactose free diet as soon as they hit puberty. And we should do the same.

So I went with Jack Lalane’s advice and decided upon a lactose free diet for myself. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. My cholesterol dropped seventy points from 240 to 170. I also lost 20 pounds, dropping from 195 to 175. And throughout I’ve had more energy and have been able to maintain a much more active lifestyle.

And now it’s easier than ever to go on a lactose free diet since there are so many substitutes for milk and cheese. Soy is the primary product for most of these substitutes, but I’ve also seen rice milk and hazelnut milk as well. And while you can taste the difference, I can vouch for the fact that you’ll eventually get used to it.

So if you’re in need of a kick start in terms of your health and metabolism, you should consider the lactose free diet.

The Art of Jewelry Making

Jewelry making can be a past time activity to some people, but others depend on it for a livelihood. The wearer of the jewelry only sees beauty and elegance of the item obviously oblivious of the intense hard work, creativity and time that goes into the process of jewelry making. To the first two groups however, the labor, creativity and dedication required to come up with unique jewelry that resonates with specific people is all too obvious.

Though no clear history is available regarding jewelry making, historians suspect that the concept was born as out of the necessity for man to keep his clothes on during the middle ages. As such, it is suspected that the earliest jewelry could be seen as buttons or fasteners in the contemporary society. This is because jewelry is worn for its decorative purposes rather than functionality. America being a melting pot of cultures, newer methods and techniques of making the same have evolved over the years in our society in order to serve the different decorative needs presented people from different cultures.

Just like other forms of art, jewelry making relies mainly on creativity, talent and dedicated practice. Talented jewelry makers find this undertaking smooth and even fun. Not all jewelry makers however fall into this category. Quite a significant number of people venture in to jewelry making out of a pure drive to excel in the same. For such, it takes a lot of learning, practice, creativity and dedication. Some of the items that jewelry makers have to deal with in the course of their work include metals, gemstones and beads.

Copper, gold and silver are the most prevalent metals used in Jewelry. Other metals as well as metallic alloys are also common use in today抯 jewelry industry. The cost of metallic jewelry usually varies depending on the metal used to make it. Gemstones are considered precious in the contemporary society. Usually such are set on metals and used as a status symbol usually displaying wealth and power. Unlike metals and gemstones however, beads are common use in almost all cultures across the world due to their availability, diversity and affordability.

Regardless of the products that one may use in this art, jewelry making tools usually apply across the board. Some of the vital tools include side cutters, round-nose pliers and chain-nosed pliers as essential tools of trade. The chain nosed-pliers are necessary for holding items into neat tight places. In jewelry making, the use of thin wires is usually unavoidable. This means that a jewelry maker needs at least one pair of side cutters. Flat nosed pliers are necessary for holding the item one is working on steady. Some of the other tools that jewelry makers can consider purchasing depending on the materials they choose to use include memory wire shears, needle files, crimping pliers, strings, needles, a beading mat and jigs among others.

About Infant Teething

You won’t know your baby is teething until it starts to happen. Even then, you may not be entirely sure what is going on. You can read about when a baby is supposed to start getting teeth and what you can look for, but every baby is different. At times, you may not know what is making your baby so cranky until that first tooth pops out. Infant teething can be a trying time for parents, especially when they do not know that is what may be going on with their baby, but every parent figures out what to do very quickly to keep baby feeling good while those teeth pop through the gums.

You may read that infant teething starts around six months. The problem with someone saying that is that all babies start at a different time. Some babies start teething around three months. There have even been rare cases when some babies are born with teeth already coming through. Some say that preemies start late (even with age adjustment) but that is not always true. Your baby is going to start going through infant teething when the time is right for them. Knowing that there is no real time to start watching for it can help you find real teething sooner. You may miss the signs if you assume that it is just too soon for teething pain to be a problem.

Some babies get a slight fever when they start going through infant teething. They may hold their hands to their mouth because of the pain, and may even refuse to eat or suck on a bottle. If you think that infant teething may be starting with your child, look for swelling of the gums and a fever that comes with no other symptoms of sickness. In some instances you can see the tooth just below the gum before it comes out. If your baby is biting down on things, this could be because that pressure actually helps with the pain. Front teeth hurt less than molars when coming through the gums, but they still hurt.

For the most part, babies get front bottom teeth first, then the top two. However, that does not mean that this is what is going to happen with your child. Some children get the top teeth first, and still others get side teeth or molars first. While that is rare, it has been known to happen. Infant teething can happen in areas where you are not looking. If you suspect teething, but do not feel anything where you think teeth are supposed to come first, check the rest of the mouth. Your baby may surprise you by popping a tooth somewhere unexpected.

If your baby is going through infant teething, there are a few things you can do to help them out. There are topical gels that numb the area, though the results are temporary. You can talk to your doctor to see if it would be appropriate to give your baby pain reliever if the pain seems to be severe. You can also give them teething rings. Those that go into the freezer first often work best as the cold helps numb the pain. Infant teething pain will come and go, so have what you need ready for when baby needs pain relief -fast.

Immigration to america

It would be wrong to say that immigration to America has “become” a hot-button issue, since immigration to America has simply always been a hot button issue. From the days of the earliest European settlers, through the great waves of European immigration in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, to the modern immigration tides from East Asia and Latin America today, immigration to America has always been a political football for demagogues looking to score cheap points with isolated, tribalistic denizens of the country’s less enlightened areas.

Depending upon your point of view the history of immigration to america began in earnest with the Pilgrims and the Plymouth Colony of the early seventeenth century. This was the first permanent establishment of europeans on the east coast of the continent, though it should be noted that Vikings had established villages in both Greenland and on the northern tip of Newfoundland over seven hundred years previous.

That said, the real beginning of immigration to America started with the europeans in the eighteenth century. Records vary, but various sources say that somewhere from four hundred thousand to one million europeans – mainly of German and British descent – immigrated to America between colonial times and the year 1814. In addition to the Dutch settlements along the Hudson River and the British settlements in New England, there was also a wave of French immigration to America along the gulf coast – specifically Louisiana – and Scots-Irish immigration to America throughout Appalachia but most specifically to what is now western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky. And of course there were hundreds of thousand of slaves that immigrated to America during the same time, however, since the slaves weren’t crossing the Atlantic of their own accord, they are generally not counted in immigration to America statistics.

The real explosion in immigration to America happened at the close of the Napoleonic Wars, sometimes called the Napoleonic World War, which played its last act in 1815. That, combined with a relaxation of immigration laws, saw a surge or Europeans making their way to America.

The biggest post-1815 waves of immigrants came from Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom and France. While a great many French settled in Quebec in what is now Canada, most of the other groups dispersed throughout the United States.

But numbers really picked up starting in 1845 with the Irish Potato Famine, followed by a general famine throughout Europe and a number of failed revolutions three years later. By the 1850s, nearly one million Europeans per year were immigrating to America.

High School Senior Portraits

You may keep your yearbook from high school for the rest of your life, but you will also want to have your high school senior portraits to share with your children when they are older. These can be great reminders of how you were and what you did while you were in high school. These pictures can be taken by anyone, or you can get them done through your high school in most cases. Make sure you get some variety in your pictures. More than one pose is always appropriate and also a lot of fun.

High school senior portraits are often the first time that anyone will have what feels like their very own photo shoot. You should take advantage of this opportunity by taking more than one outfit that you love with you when you go. You can change a few times for a little variety. If you are in a school sport or some type of club, you may want to take a jersey, letterman’s jacket, or other prop with you when you go so you can use them in one of your photos. These are always a lot of fun.

Some schools have contracts with photographers to come and take high school senior portraits for any students that sign up and pay the fee. These people know what to do and what to suggest so that you can make the most of your portraits. They are going to do a simple head shot that is going to look good in the yearbook, but after that, they can suggest many poses and locations. You can choose the ones that you love. Allow them to guide you and make your own suggestions as well and you will love the results. You can also find your own photographer if your parents allow you to do so.

What can be surprising to some students is that high school senior portraits are often taken the summer before senior year. You are probably use to having pictures done at school during the first part of that year, but these are done even sooner. Technically, they are junior pictures, but you probably won’t change that much that it makes a difference. Not only does this ensure they are ready when you need them, it also ensures summer or fall shots if you live in an area where it might not be wise to pose for pictures outdoors because of the low temperatures.

When you order your high school senior portraits, the prices are going to be higher than what they were before when you got your pictures taken other years. Talk with your parents about the cost and what you hope to get out of your portrait package. Make sure you have enough for your parents, some to keep for yourself, and what you want to give friends and family. These pictures will be around for a long time, and you may not get any done again until you are engaged or married, so make the most of them and enjoy the experience.

Hairstyles for the Modern Men

The modern man is more freethinking about hairstyles that fit him. Unlike old times, where hairstyles for men were conservative, men in different societies today are free to experiment with any hairstyle that appeals to them. The modern man has embraced the joys that come with this freedom much to the amazement of women who previously thought that beauty salons were their preserve only.

Hairstyles for men vary depending with the length of the hair, the stylists that one is working with and generally the look that one wants to attain. An increasing number of men are today letting their hairs grow just below the ears. Such hair can easily be styled using layers or other creations which are easily attainable through styling tools and products. Most of the common products used in styling men抯 hair regardless of their length include wax, putty and molding paste. Relaxing creams are also common use in hair maintenance and styling for African-American men. Other substitutes for coarse hair include cornrows, dreadlocks or shaggy locks.

Just as length is important in determining hairstyles for men, the texture of the hair also does matter. Most men want to maintain the natural texture of their hairs. To attain this, it is recommended that one gets his hair done in a professional salon where they would know the ideal products to use.

Hairstyles for men do not have to be expensive to maintain. Most often, men can purchase the products and learn to attain the different hairstyles all by themselves or with a little help from women in their lives. Most casual hairstyles need no professional help to attain. Besides, becoming one抯 own hairstylist can only be attained through trying one抯 imaginative skills on the hair. Usually, all one needs for this is a comb, a mirror, their own two hands and maybe some hair gel.

Previously, majority of men were guilty of dismissing anything touching on hair as a woman抯 issue. In a world where the trends are ever changing, men have slowly grown accustomed to the different hairstyles available for them in the fashion world. In addition to their dressing, they have realized that hairstyles for men can also help them make a statement in their own small worlds. Think of a man like David Beckham who besides being an icon in European football, has also made a name in the fashion industry with his unique and head turning styles.

Today, hairstyles for men are as diverse just as the men spotting them. There is practically a hairstyle for every occasion, creed, race or belief.

Hairstyles for African American Women

Hairstyles for African American women have come a long way since the days when they relied entirely on jelly for curling and hot irons for straightening. Today, African American women, just like their white counterparts, have had their photos plastered on covers of international magazines in sleek, sophisticated and trendy hairstyles. Such range from locks, braids, kinky curls, to straight relaxed styles that are complimented by the tough nature of the African-American hair. However, this is not to mean that it has been easy for hair stylists to come up with these trendy hairstyles for the black hair. The body and mass of the hair was initially a challenge to stylists. However, with innovations in hair products, these same characteristics of the black hair makes it easy to style and hold for long. This means that one can style her hair, leave for work, and still come back to the house with the style intact.

The increasing number of efficient shampoos, conditioners, treatments and other products makes getting trendy hairstyles for African-American women a reality to many. One of the natural challenges that have had to be overcome by hair designers includes the dry nature of the African-woman hair. For this, the hydrating conditioners and hydrating lotions serve to moisturize the hair as well as give it some radiant sheen. Due to the coarse nature of the Africa-American hair, most women find it hard to style it in its natural form. As such, chemical relaxing cr鑝es and hair additions such as braids and weaves can be used to make the styling process easy. To most black women, this is usually an advantage because they can change hairstyles as often as they wish.

Today, hairstyles for African American women include styles that were previously seen as a preserve for the softer, longer white-woman hair. Such include up-do styles, ponytails, buns or simply letting one抯 hair fall loosely naturally. Although the mini-afro has always had a classic look to it, the style still has a touch of modernity that gives the wearer a classy, neat and timeless look.

Women who feel that they need more length to their natural hair can attain the same using weaves, which are either tracked to one抯 hair or glued. One of the common hairstyles for African-American women is tracking, which involves making some neat corn rows with one抯 natural hair and attaching the weave using weaving threads to the cornrows. Tracking also involves flattening the natural hair with gel, letting it dry, and then attaching weaves using adhesives. A more efficient, but not so popular, way of attaching weaves is known as fusion. Here, every single strand of one抯 natural hair is attached to the 慺ake?hair. As one would imagine, it is a tiring and time-consuming method of weaving. Usually however, the resulting hairstyle is worth the trouble. The weaves are made of natural hair extensions or synthetic material, which can easily pass for one抯 own hair.

Art in Glass

Glass artists employ a technique called glass art to produce 2-dimensional artwork or sculptures using various approached to accomplish this. Glass development in the United States had its early development in the early 1900s where the use of glass as an artistic medium saw the creation of small-scale furnaces. The latter development has seen design schools offer fine art glass programs with many modern glass artists graduating from these institutions. The largest number of glass artists was originally concentrated in Seattle, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Today, San Francisco, L.A and Corning have also seen a sizable concentration of glass artists come up. The Pilchuk Glass School near Seattle is the most famous and has become a Mecca for glass artists coming from all over the world. Here, established glass artists and college students exchange information and skills on a purely 慻lass?level, so to speak.

Several types of decorative glass exist with the blown glass being the most practical in making such things vases, chandeliers and bottles. The flame-work glass is used to create unique textured glass sculptures, shapes, beads and more. Experienced glass artists can develop complex, multi-layered and colorful shapes that can astonish almost anyone. Stain or architectural glass is the most impressive and comes in different shapes, colors, textures and sizes. Glass artists cut it into specific artwork or melt, design patterns or change its overall shape. The slumped glass has a 3-dimensiaonal look and is used in bathrooms, kitchens, showers, sinks, windows among other areas. It hides grease, finger prints and easy to clean. The etched glass has almost unlimited applications. Glass artists use decorative glass to create wonderful, inspiring pieces of art.

Glass artists use many ways to create and decorate glass. One of these is glass blowing where an artist uses metal rods and hand tools to shape the glass to almost any form by blowing. Casting is also undertaken by some artists. Other methods include fusing, etching and flameworking. Etching involves the use of an acid solution to engrave patterns on the glass surface while flameworking uses rods and tubes to shape the glass.

As one famous artist said, artwork is a 損rocess that follows its own path, colors being chosen intuitively, every moment unfolding surprises … I sculpt in color and form, continuously transforming and remolding my image, like working with wet malleable clay. My experience of the process of creation and how my artwork moves others is what is important to me?
