Off-Road Running with New Balance Trail Shoes

I follow a pretty strict workout regimen in order to stay in shape. As part of the program, I run have to run close to 25 miles per week. That seems like a lot, but it breaks down to five miles per day for five days, with two days of rest. That’s less than 50 minutes per day, which is extremely manageable, even for a non-athlete like myself. Nevertheless, 25 miles a week is still hard on the knees, particularly when I have to run on concrete sidewalks or asphalt streets. That’s why I recently invested in a pair of New Balance trail shoes.

With New Balance trail shoes, I can comfortably go off-road and jog on softer surfaces that are easier on all my joints. New Balance trail shoes have a lot of great features that benefit runners like me, and have proven to be an excellent buy thus far. For example, I love all the lugs on the bottom of the shoe. These give me exceptional traction on dirt and grass, and allow me to go full speed without worrying about losing my footing and taking a tumble. In addition, the shoe comes with extra cushioning in all areas to absorb the numerous shocks that come about from running on trails and paths.

I also love how my New Balance trail shoes have a special “Lightning Dry” liner to help wick moisture away from my feet while I’m jogging. This not only makes me more comfortable throughout my workout, but also helps prevent blisters and other foot ailments that could knock me off my training schedule. Another terrific feature on my New Balance trail shoes is the “rock stop” guard near the toe area that protects me from getting nicked by sharp rocks or sticks while I’m off the beaten path.

I was expecting to pay quite a bit for exercise equipment of this quality, but luckily I decided to look around on the internet first. I found several sporting goods websites that offer discount New Balance trail shoes for much less than what I would have paid at a regular retailer. I just had to make sure I knew my size before placing my order (I went to a local store to try on a few pairs), and I was good to go. I ended up saving about 35 percent off the suggested retail price, and got free shipping on the deal too.

Now that I’ve been running on softer surfaces with my New Balance trail shoes for a few months, I’m really starting to notice the difference. My knees don’t ache as much, and I don’t get fatigued as quickly during my outings. I have a feeling this purchase will allow me to flourish in my training program!

Is it that Important that Big Brother Should Enforce Natural Ways to Lower Blood Pressure

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine recently somehow managed to shake up the entire country; people are suddenly talking animatedly about individual rights, Big Brother, where big government draws the line, not to mention the right to go out to a meal and be guaranteed a good full-bodied taste. The scientific study goes and says that if people could manage to season their food with less salt by even a small amount, they would reduce their risk of falling to blood pressure-induced heart disease and strokes as much as they would if they happened to give up smoking, or for that matter, a big fat paunch. As much sense as natural ways to lower blood pressure and heart disease such as these make, the general public seems to bristle at the very thought that the government might intrude so much in their lives.

The study doesn’t just mention a few vague possibilities; it makes its case with accessible statistics, and easy to grasp everyday examples. For instance, if everyone undertook to defer to a few natural ways to lower blood pressure and heart disease like bringing down their salt consumption by only a half teaspoon a day, the country would go through nearly a hundred thousand fewer heart attacks each year, and nearly that many fewer deaths from heart disease. Where does most of the salt in our diet come from? From our partiality for chips, and dip, and salt-encrusted pretzels, and a hundred other processed and packaged goodies on the supermarket shelves, of course.

The city council in New York has led the charge for Citizen health; the Council is urging restaurants and food manufacturers to bring down the quantity of salt they use in their food by a quarter over the next five years. And the food that is served at public schools and other public establishments across the state, will be given salt limits too. The independent research institution, Institute of Medicine, is preparing a salt intake recommendation that will help. What is more, the Food and Drug Administration is no longer going to list salt as food; from now on, salt will be listed as an additive. The government has tried for close to a half century to get the citizens of the country to try natural ways to lower blood pressure and heart disease, without government goading. It hasn’t worked so far; the kind of clear and ready-made information found in this latest report is likely to give the government’s plan some extra teeth.

And yet, not everyone is convinced; to call salt as dangerous as tobacco smoke, is clearly unacceptable to many physicians. In their experience, salt intake does not account for much change in a patient’s blood pressure levels; but anecdotal evidence does suggest a certain amount of definite improvement. And the great thing about picking natural ways to lower blood pressure is, that even a small beginning could potentially bring on great tangible benefits. You could never say that about tobacco, now could you?

Natural Acne Remedies

Natural acne remedies are the most advisable cure options for sensitive skin. Although there are hundreds of manufactured remedies promising alleviation of the disturbing skin conditions, it is always advisable to seek a doctor抯 advice before trying them out. Acne break-outs usually occur in the teenage years when most young people experience an increase of testosterone production in the body. Psychological disturbances, stress and irregular lifestyles are also thought to contribute to acne break-outs in adults.

Some of the natural acne remedies used to cure or alleviate the severity of acne includes Aloe Vera, Tea tree oil, vitamin A and Zinc. Tea Tree oil is a very effective acne treatment since it has bacteria-fighting properties. Bacteria are the major cause of acne outbreaks and tea tree has active properties that either weaken the bacteria or kills them.

Aloe Vera is also among the viable natural acne remedies. It contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory soothing properties. Aloe Vera can also be applied on the affected areas, or taken orally for detoxification of the digestive tract. This in turn helps alleviate the skin condition.

Zinc is potent natural acne remedy usually taken in capsule form. Zinc helps repair the skin and also reinforces one抯 immune system. Vitamin A on the other hand is obtained from foods but is also available in tablet form. The vitamin helps the body develop a healthy skin. Vitamin E is considered a natural anti-oxidant and hence beneficial to the skin.

Dermatologists encourage acne sufferers to drink a minimum of four pints of water daily. In addition, eating leafy vegetables and fresh fruit is also beneficial to the skin as it improves the skins ability to heal and rejuvenate itself. Some other natural acne remedies suggested by dermatologists include applying a mixture of tomato pulp, rose water and honey on the face for 20 minutes before washing it up. Tomato contains Vitamin C which is a vital vitamin in alleviating skin conditions.

Soaking 3-4 cloves of raw garlic in milk overnight (to remove the garlic smell) and applying the same on the face the next morning is also a potent natural acne remedy. This is especially effective on persistent pimples. Raw potatoes also contain potassium, phosphorous and sulphur, components which are thought to be highly beneficial to a person抯 skin. Rubbing shredded or grated potatoes on the skin cures pimples and reduces both white heads and blackheads. The juice of a green (raw) papaya also reduces the severity of the swelling brought about by pimples therefore preventing the formation of pus and marks on one抯 face.

Multiple Sclerosis Disability

Multiple sclerosis disability comprises both physical and cognitive disabilities. Physical disabilities are manifested through loss of locomotors function, muscle weakness, numbness and tingling. Speech and vision problems are also classified as disabling conditions that manifest in some MS sufferers. MS is defined as a nerve condition, whereby an individual抯 immune system eats at the protective brain cover (myelin) that protects the nerves. This hampers communication between the brain and other parts of the body. Ultimately, the condition may lead to an irreversible deterioration of the body抯 nerves and at this stage a person may loose his motor abilities or the ability to speak.

Multiple sclerosis disability is not a straight-forward disease to diagnose especially during its initial stages. This is especially so because the symptoms are inconsistent, sometimes appearing for a short time, only to disappear for a long period of time. The symptoms vary depending on the affected nerves. However, they include: * Weakness or numbness in limbs usually occurring repeatedly on one side of the body * Complete or partial loss of sight (optic neuritis). This usually occurs at different times on each eye * Blurred or double vision * Pain or acute tingling of specific parts of the body * Electric shock-like sensations, which occur when a person moves the head in specific motions * Tremor, unsteady gait and lack of the ability to coordinate one抯 body movements * Dizziness * Fatigue These symptoms usually disappear in the initial stages of the disease only to reappear later. Medics however reckon that an increase of temperature in the body triggers or worsens the severity of the MS symptoms.

Medics compare myelin with the insulation cover put on electrical wires. By MS destroying myelin, the messages transmitted from the brain to other parts of the body through the nerves are either blocked or slowed. Blockages lead to more severe disabilities.

Multiple Sclerosis disability usually occurs in people who are 20 to 40 years old. The condition is twice as prevalent in women as it is in men. More to this, genetic predisposition is also a risk factor. Statistics indicate that people with family history of the condition have an average 2 percent risk of developing the same.

Multiple sclerosis disability is also linked to the Epstein – Barr virus, which cause infectious mononucleosis. This is however yet to receive a scientific backing. People of European origin are also at a higher risk of developing MS compared to people of African, Native American or African origin. It is also thought that temperate climates place a person at an increased risk.

Morning Sickness During Pregnancy

Some women are surprised when they experience morning sickness during pregnancy for the first time. They are not surprised to have it, but they may be surprised to find that their sickness comes at every time of the day other than the morning. Others have classic cases of being sick in the morning, but they find that the duration is much longer than they thought. When dealing with morning sickness, it is important to do what you can to feel better, but you also have to think about a healthy pregnancy. Most moms and babies get through it just fine, but there are exceptions.

One surprise that some women have when it comes to morning sickness during pregnancy is that it does not have to come in the morning. In fact, for many women, the sick feeling lasts all day long. This is not just limited to the first trimester either, as some unlucky souls have morning sickness for the duration of their pregnancy. Some get sick and throw up and others never actually get sick, they just feel as if they are about to throw up all day but get no relief from the feeling. It can be hard to deal with when that happens.

For the most part, the reason for morning sickness during pregnancy is the new influx or hormones running through the woman’s body. The body is not use to these and they cause a queasy feeling that leads some women to throw up. HCG is the hormone that shows up on a pregnancy test, and is what makes most women sick. This hormone decreases as others increase, near the end of the first trimester, which leads to relief for some, but not all. The majority, however, feel better once they are in their second trimester of pregnancy.

Quite often, a very tired feeling and a missing period are the first signs a woman has that suggest she may be pregnant. Morning sickness during pregnancy comes soon after, which is usually the clue that they really need to get a test and see a doctor. Some women do not get morning sickness and breeze through pregnancy feeling pretty darn good. This does not mean that they do not have a good level of hormones, it just means they tolerate them well. Do not take a lack of morning sickness to mean there is something wrong with your baby or your pregnancy in general.

When you are dealing with morning sickness with pregnancy, there are a few things you can do. Try to have something small to eat when you first get up, before you get out of bed. That helps many women. You may have to experiment to find the right thing to eat, but try to eat something however small. Lay down when you are not feeling well, and make sure you talk to your doctor if you are not able to keep any food down and if you are losing weight. Pregnancy is one time when losing a bunch of weight is not a good idea. There are some things your doctor can recommend to take the edge off of your morning sickness during pregnancy.

Use of Military Bases

Many of us perceive military bases as the stronghold of our national security and rightfully so. Men and women who serve in our military get accommodation, training and everything else needed to make them protectors of the United States from such facilities. Unlike other parts of the country, military bases are extra-legal facilities, meaning that civil law is not applicable here. In its place is military law. Some of the names used on military bases include airbase, shipyard, garrison, barracks, armory, caserne, proving ground or dock among others. Although the term 憁ilitary base?can be used for an organized establishment housing the police, militia, constabulary or even guards in other countries, the term is used solely to refer to an establishment used by the army in the US.

Because the public is restricted from getting into military bases, those who have family members are usually very curious to know what is contained in such bases. The military bases usually have adequate housing, sanitation facilities, dining halls, hospitals churches, gyms and other recreational facilities for use by authorized military personnel and their families

Most military bases in the country provide accommodation to more than one military unit. This is in addition to being used as a proving ground, a training ground or a command center. All military bases are funded by the government and hence the huge budgets allocated for military use each year.

As command centers, military bases serve as the central place where orders are issued, intelligence analyzed and field reports issued. For this to happen effectively, the military base must be in constant touch with people on the fields. The role of such is to report what is happening to the base. Depending on the goal that was set before taking up an activity, military personnel operating from the command centers are able to analyze the progress and issue further orders when necessary. Such command centers are manned by military officers in the ranks of major to colonel.

As a training or proving ground, the military bases are used for weapon installation or reservation. Such are easily identifiable because of their names. They include the Yuma Proving ground in Arizona, Sandy Hook proving-ground in New Jersey, Jefferson Proving ground in Indiana, Pacific proving ground in Marshall Islands, Dugway Proving ground in Utah and Aberdeen proving ground in Maryland. Of these, pacific, Jefferson and Sandy Hook are no longer in active use. Outside its borders, the United States maintains more than 1,000 military bases. Of this, 200 are in Germany.

Could Migraine Medicines Actually Cause Migraine?

Millions of Americans suffer from regular, everyday headaches, and the scientists and doctors who help them deal with this reality, often investigate deeply into the causes of the headaches. People can suffer from chronic headaches for a misaligned jaw, stress, or any of a number of genetic reasons. And of recent, they are beginning to train their attention on a new possible cause: excessive experimentation with migraine medicines. When scientists first happened upon this as a possible cause of a migraine, they were taken aback at the sheer number of cases of headache that day could explain with it. A patient typically sets it off by downing pain medication at the first signs of pain – the prescription kind, or over-the-counter. The medicine does have its effect, but when it comes time for it to wear off, the excessive quantities used cause a kind of backfire; a pain killer hangover starts, that sends the patient reaching for the painkiller again. And so it goes on.

People don’t realize that headache and migraine medicines come with a certain hangover effect, and for this reason, are locked into a slow, self-perpetuating dance of pain. If you or anyone you know should find that the pain gets worse or more frequent over time, it is usually painkiller abuse that is the cause. Doctors are being counseled now by specialist medical boards to alert them to the dangers of liberal overuse of headache drugs. They’re not concerned as much with the quantities of medicines people choose to take, as they are with the frequency of use. If a person reaches for his painkillers more than 15 times a month, you have an overuse problem right there.

So how do you find out if your painkiller habit is what is giving you your headaches and migraine? The only way to know would be to stop taking them to check for a while. It could be a two month while too. It takes that much time for the brain to free itself from the effects of all the overuse it’s been treated to. Of all the people who endure self-inflicted headaches this way, people who have migraines are the worst affected by the painkiller backfires. Doctors recommend that people who complain of migraine, should best taper off their painkiller habit, instead of cutting themselves off abruptly. Apart from this though, these are exciting times for people on the lookout for migraine medicines. Topiramate, branded Topamax, has been proven to thin out the attacks of migraine that people get. For up to 14 months, people who take Topamax should suffer from fewer episodes. Botox treatment is a particularly effective one for certain kinds of migraines and headaches too.

There is actually nothing specific to headache or migraine medicines that makes overuse dangerous. Any kind of painkiller, with or without caffeine, is capable of coming back with a rebound. Barbiturates are the worst of the lot. Germany has actually banned these for their tendency to get overused. They are still perfectly available in America though. Doctors say that painkiller overuse is epidemic, and they are learning to look for identifying signs of the specific kinds of trouble associated with it. They learn to spot the trouble, and help people deal with weaning themselves off. They say that 90% of people who try this, report great improvement.

Eating a low fat diet

If you want to drop weight and get healthy, then one of the best things you can do for yourself is eat a low fat diet. It’s an especially good idea now, with spring and swimsuit season approaching, to reconsider what you’re eating and when, as not only can you have positive health effects, but you can improve yourself aesthetically as well.

And the good news is that eating a low fat diet is actually pretty easy. You have to avoid things like dairy, red meat, and desserts of all kinds. So eating a low fat diet does mean you’ll have to give up some of the tasty treats we all love, but improved physical and mental health are a more than ample payoff for such sacrifices.

So here’s some advice on how to eat a low fat diet.

First, clear out your refrigerator and pantry. Get rid of all the stuff that is high in fat, but more importantly, get rid of the stuff that’s high in transfats and saturated fats. Believe it or not there are some fats (like Omega 3 fatty acids) that are good for your health. However, transfats and saturated fats are anything but. So go through your foodstores with a fine-toothed comb and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit the bill for your new low fat diet.

Once you’ve finished clearing out the ice cream and cookies, it’s time to restock your pantry and fridge with healthy ingredients. This means fresh fruits and vegetables, bread that’s not made with high fructose corn syrup, and a focus on whole grains like quinoa or oats.

Another good bit of advice is to cut back on your servings of meat. Even low-fat meats like chicken or fish are higher in fat than vegetables, and a nice three bean soup, or brown rice and lentils, can be just as hearty and filling as any sort of meat.

You’ll also want to drink plenty of liquids, namely water. Proper hydration maintains kidney function, and it’s your kidneys that process all the junk out of your system. Even when eating a low fat diet, you’ll be taking in waste that your kidneys need to dispose of. So give them all the help they need and drink plenty of water every day. Also, this has the added benefit of filling you up a bit so you’ll eat less in the first place.

Lower Cholesterol Food

Ask any average American what cholesterol is and a majority will give you a fat-related answer. While this may not be too far from the truth, the reality of the matter is that cholesterol and fat are two different things. This means that cholesterol can be found in both high-fat foods and low-fat foods. More to this, high-fat diets are not the sole sources of bad cholesterol. Hereditary factors also contribute significantly to one抯 cholesterol build-up levels. The good news however is that cholesterol levels can be well managed by eating lower cholesterol food.

To start, nutritionists recommend the inclusion of oats and whole grains in a person抯 diet. Walnuts, fatty fish and foods that contain plant stanols or sterols are also recommended since research into the same has found that they significantly reduce bad cholesterol in the body. People should however know that eating these foods does not give them the leeway to indulge in high-fat foods.

Legumes are also among the lower cholesterol foods recommended by health experts. Foods in this group include beans, hummus, black beans and soy beans. The recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables daily take a completely different meaning in cholesterol management. As such, people prone to high cholesterol levels especially due to genetic predisposition are advised to take at least one serving of the same at breakfast, another at lunch and another at dinner. The remaining two can be taken as snacks in between the main meals. While taking fruits as a cholesterol management food, doctors recommend the consumption of whole fruits instead of juices, since this allows one to consume the fiber too.

Garlic in both its cooked or raw forms is also categorized as a lower cholesterol food. According to the medical experts, garlic has compound concentrates, which lower the amount of cholesterol released by the liver into the blood stream. Salmon, avocados, almonds and olive oils are classified as ideal sources of monounsaturated fats. Accordingly, such should be consumed for purposes of providing the body with good cholesterol.

Foods classified as being rich in Vitamins E and C are touted to have natural anti-oxidants. Such are also recommended as lower cholesterol foods, and include the likes of peppers, oranges, broccoli, straw berries, papaya, grapes, wheat germ, and sun flower seeds among others. Over the years, doctors have recommended a glass of wine or beer as an ideal lower cholesterol food. They however advise against binge drinking.

In order for lower cholesterol food to have a positive impact in the body, people also need to keep their weights within healthy levels by eating the recommended portions of the other foods and exercising.
